چکیده

Eight plant densities (8.8, 9.5, 10.4, 11.4, 17.6, 19.1, 20.8, and 22.9 plants m ) in 2001–2002 and 12 plant densities (8.8, 9.5, 10.4, 11.4, 12.7, 14.3, 17.6, 19.1, 20.8, 22.9, 25.4, and 28.6 plants m ) in 2002–2003 were evaluated on growth and fruit yield of ‘Sweet Charlie’ strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) grown in a passively ventilated greenhouse. Plant densities were derived by varying within-row plant spacings (PS) (17.5 and 35 cm) with between row spacings (RS) (40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65 cm). Plants were grown in Polygal ‘Hanging Bed-Pack’ troughs filled with pine bark and fertigated with a complete nutrient solution. In 2001–2002, total marketable yield (g plant ) or (no. fruit plant ) were not influenced by RS. In 2002–2003, total marketable yield (g plant ) or (no. fruit plant ) were reduced at 40 cm RS, the narrowest RS used in the experiment. Early (November through January) and total marketable yields (g plant ), crown diameter, and leaf number of plants grown at 35 cm PS were significantly greater than those of plants grown at 17.5 cm RS in both experiments. Total and early marketable yield (kg m ) increased linearly as plant density (plants m ) increased in both experiments. Winter strawberry production in a greenhouse using high plant densities and soilless substrates may be a viable alternative to open-field with methyl bromide fumigation production system. # 2007 Elsevier B.V. Winter Strawberry Production in Greenhouses Using Soilless Substrates: an Alternative to Methyl Bromide Soil Fumigation

In an effort to develop an alternative to methyl bromide-dependant strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) field production in north-central Florida, we evaluated various soilless substrates, growing containers, plug transplants, plant densities, cultivars, and biological control strategies in a passively ventilated high-roof greenhouse near Gainesville, Florida. The type of soilless media used ...

Feasibility of using Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) Root Residue as Growth Medium and Its Effect on Growth Indices and Nutrients Uptake in Soilless Culture of Strawberry

Licorice root pulp is an organic waste which may be used as a growth medium in soilless culture. A research was conducted in a completely randomized design with 8 replications to assess the efficiency of licorice root pulp as a growth medium for strawberry plant (Selva cv.) under greenhouse conditions for three months. In this experiment, four ratios (v/v) of perlite:licorice root pulp (75:25, ...

Investigation of the Quantity and Quality of Strawberry Fruit (cv. Aromas) in Different Harvesting Periods as Affected by Culture Medium and Humic Acid

Culture medium and nutrition are two important factors in determining the quantity and quality of greenhouse products. Accordingly, a factorial experiment was conducted based on completely randomized design on strawberry (cv. Aromas) in the greenhouse of Department of Horticulture, University of Kurdistan, Sanandaj, Iran. The first factor was two culture media (mixture of perlite and cocopeat w...

امکان استفاده از برگ خشک کاج، ضایعات لاستیک، میکا و پوسته شلتوک به عنوان بستر کاشت گوجه‌فرنگی در سیستم کشت بدون خاک

In this research, the possibility of using dried leaves of pine (Pi), tire-rubber wastes (TR) and rice hull (Ri) as tomato growth media in soilless culture system was investigated. Tomato seeds were grown in sterilized sand and after one month, the seedlings were transplanted to various growth media including dried leaves of pine- perlite (Pi:Pe), dried leaves of pine- rubber wastes (Pi:TR), co...

Sawdust and Bark-Based Substrates for Soilless Strawberry Production: Irrigation and Electrical Conductivity Management

The objective of this work was to optimize a soilless growing system for producing bare-root strawberry transplants in three organic substrates. Three trials were conducted in the Quebec City area to determine the productivity potential of a peat-sawdust mixture (PS25) and an aged bark (AB) material compared to conventional coconut fiber (CF) substrate. A first experiment was carried out to def...
